Seven Sunscreens I Can't Live Without

Posted by Marla Malcolm Beck on

Skinceuticals SPF 45 ($37) - Thick and effective this is THE ONLY sunscreen I will wear to the beach, to play tennis, or to my kids’ soccer game. My kids know that they are required to wear this also. We do not burn when we slather this on. The texture is a little thick, but it works! Hampton Sun Spray SPF 70 or SPF 55 ($32) - We are all a little lazy – so for legs – I let my kids use this sheer, non oily spray. Trish McEvoy Spf 40 ($45) or Chanel SPF 50*  ($52) - My...

Four La Mer Products I Can't Live Without

1. The Regenerating Serum ($260) -  A light hydrating serum which goes beautifully over my nightly vitamin c serum dose. I use this year round when I feel like I need an extra pre-bedtime boost of hydration and renewal.2. The Eye Concentrate ($165) - Silky, satiny, smooth and hydrating. What else could you want? This is our new staff and client favorite. I have these fine dry lines around my eyes that disappear when I slather this on!3. The Cleansing Fluid ($65) - I just pulled this out again. This is my go to heavy sunscreen remover. I will not...

Get Jennifer Lawrences Hunger Games Look

Posted by Marla Malcolm Beck on

I saw the Hunger Games with my husband last weekend and I must admit, I couldn’t stop thinking about the makeup (of course!). The makeup in every scene was spectacular, especially Katniss Everdeen’s. Hunger Games makeup artist Ve Neill was a genius at making her look strong, noble and virtuous. One of my favorites was the scene where she was first presented to the Capital audience. The strong eye, blissfully peach cheeks and lavender lip were unbelievable. Emma, our fabulous district manager and makeup artist extraordinaire, has shown me how to get this look. Bobbi Brown’s Fresh Melon Pot Rouge...

Insta-Cool

I returned home from Chicago late last night and my face was on fire. I had day-tripped to Chicago and the two plane flights in one day had wreaked havoc on my skin. It was just irritated with me. Stepping through our front door at midnight, I ran to the shower and then pulled out Skinceuticals new Redness Neutralizer and slathered this cooling lotion all over my face. After an instant cooling feel, I could just feel the irritation slip away. I crawled straight into bed and the next morning my skin was hydrated and back to normal.

Soft & Sweet

Posted by Marla Malcolm Beck on

While there are many bold and bright spring trends, I must say, I am always partial to the soft and sweet nude lip. I have the good fortune to have oodles and oodles of stuff sent to me by the most creative brands in the world. As I got up this morning, I was looking around for a lip color, and came upon NARS Mayflower. I don’t know when I got it, or how. I have a feeling they gave it to me in their office one day, but I LOVE this color. It was from Spring 2011’s collection and...

Gwyneth, Nars & The Oscars

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of NARS and a huge fan of Gwyneth Paltrow. I love how this busy mom of two keeps in shape, has glowing skin and of course, wears NARS. Her gorgeous goddess look at the Oscars came from NARS and I am running to my makeup drawers to see what I have that she used:1. PURE RADIANT TINTED MOISTURIZER $42Launching now, this is my new favorite tinted moisturizer, with SPF30. My color is Alaska.2. SUPER ORGASM ILLUMINATOR $30Have and love—just a quick dab to the cheeks and voilà—glow.3. ALHAMBRA DUO EYESHADOW...

New and a Classic?

Posted by Marla Malcolm Beck on

I always get in an eyeshadow rut. Same base, same crease color, day after day. I was in our Bethesda store the other day and one of bluemercury’s makeup artist experts said, “Have you tried Trish McEvoy’s Rose Gold?” I hadn’t. She put it on me and I am hooked. A rose, coppery gold with a little shimmer – it is the perfect shadow to transition to spring. Warm, neutral and exciting, this is my daily shadow on top of my favorite base shadow of all time, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Bone. I am definitely adding Rose...

Nude, Nude Lip

Posted by Marla Malcolm Beck on

Now I’m slightly sick and feverish. After 3 nights caring for sick kids, it was inevitable. Too much to do, so I headed to the office. I threw on a black cozy sweater, pearls, a leather skirt and suede boots and was feeling like no makeup today. So, I experimented with the nudist of nude lips. I started with Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color in Baby, so creamy but sheer I can’t decide if it is a lipstick or a sheer gloss. (By the way, I have three of these at all times, one in my cosmetics drawers, one in...

Up All Night Makeup

No, I was not out partying. I was up all night last night with a sick kid. 103 degree fever, breathing on me all night as I hugged her, hoping it would go down so she could sleep. Needless to say I woke up the next morning dragging and trying to get out the door.My skin, surprisingly, looked okay (thank you Vitamin C serum)!I quickly used Trish McEvoy Brush #11 with the Arabian Nights Eye Definer to line my eyes.I used NARS The Multiple in South Beach on my cheeks.I put Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara on my lashes.I lined...
