A Letter from Our Founder

To Our Bluemercury Community,

This is an unprecedented time in our country and our industry. Bluemercury stores are an active part of the neighborhoods where our clients live, and we see firsthand the devastating impact COVID-19 is having in communities across the country.

In order to protect the health and safety of our clients and our teams, we closed our doors on March 18, hoping to reopen within two weeks. But there is no clear line of sight on how long this crisis will last, and with almost 200 retail stores closed, we have lost the majority of our sales. Along with our parent company, Macy’s, Inc., we have taken a number of actions to help sustain our business.

Some of these decisions are especially difficult, as they directly impact the Bluemercury family – our team and our vendor partners.


On April 1, we will furlough the majority of our team members in our stores and in our corporate office. Some team members will move to part time, and those that are staying on full time, including myself, will receive pay cuts.

We are also extending payment terms for our vendor partners. As the founder of a small, entrepreneurial business, I know how challenging this will be for many of them. I am hopeful that, with the support of our partners and our loyal team members, we will soon emerge from this crisis ready to serve our shared clients.

I have led this company for more than 20 years, seeing it through recessions, natural disasters and untold challenges. The Bluemercury team has weathered storms before, and we are fighting to make it through to the other side so we can survive and thrive together.
