When I was younger, I used to go full-on. I had to have lashes and everything else. Post-quarantine, I've stuck more to how I really look. I’m still a slave to lashes, though. I love lashes. I've got really small eyes. Everything I used to put on my face would overshadow it. Lashes are the one thing I would put on, and I felt they made my eyes look bigger. My lashes are naturally very, very curly, so I look for mascara that can separate lashes without clumping. I've got coarse—but curly—lashes, so mascara has to be lengthening as well.
Any other makeup essentials?
Contour is every girl’s best friend, to be fair. I recently realized that powders don't work for me. They just blend into whatever makeup I have on. So now I use a Bobbi Brown foundation stick. They have one that’s quite dark. I use that as contour because the texture is so soft and so creamy, it just blends into my skin. It actually looks like it could be a shadow.
What skincare are you excited about?
I have 111Skin masks that I got last Christmas. I love those. I love any type of sheet mask, actually. I use 111Skin eye patches for flying or when I'm tired. They're expensive, but I do feel they make an actual difference, so I'm happy to pay for them.
Any beauty secrets?
I love supplements. I think they’re amazing. I use different ones, depending on what I need. If I look a bit tired, I'll take more iron. If I'm feeling bloated, I'll take charcoal. I'm in finance, so by default, I research everything. The only all-in-one I take is for my hair, skin and nails. I take silica daily, and silica is great for my hair. Amazingly, it has changed the texture of it, and my nails are growing.
What does the word “holiday” mean to you?
Holiday to me is family. I'm a massive family person. I come from a massive family. I have three older sisters, younger brothers, a stepdad, a mom, a stepfamily. To me, family is everything, and the holidays are family. And I also mean extended family, like friends and people who I love and just people who I get to see. So, I meet up with old friends. I meet up with ex-colleagues. I've lived in two other countries, so I try to get in FaceTime calls. To me, the holidays are a catch-up session with everybody you love. They’re like a reset before the new year.
What do you like about the ritual of self-care?
In life, a lot of people focus so much outward on others and making sure other people are good. When you do self-care, when you take time to moisturize or do your hair or put on a sheet mask, it's you actually looking after yourself. Sometimes we don't do that mentally, but at least you can do that physically. It sets the tone for you prioritizing yourself. Because when you're doing things for yourself, you're making yourself the priority. That's also why I love it.
