Barry and Marla Beck are the founders and visionaries behind Bluemercury, Inc. In 1999, cosmetics could only be purchased at drugstores or department stores. As a recent graduate and working woman, Marla found less and less time to pursue her quest for products that would maintain glowing, healthy skin. Barry, a serial entrepreneur who had already started three businesses, saw an opportunity. Together, they created the first Bluemercury in Georgetown, Washington D.C. – the neighborhood store for beauty, where clients could find high quality, innovative beauty products and honest, expert advice.

We offer the world’s most innovative beauty products in a truly unique shopping experience. Bluemercury clients receive unparalleled technical product knowledge, expert advice and friendly service. Our teams would rather have clients leave the store with handfuls of samples, so that they can be sure to find products that work for them, rather than ever buy anything that is less than 100% right. Every day, we take hundreds of questions about skincare and makeup concerns and challenges. In addition to skincare, makeup, haircare, and fragrance products, clients can be pampered by our skincare experts in our locations’ spas. Our spas are home to the ultimate results-oriented treatments, including our world renowned oxygen facials, glycolic peels, waxing and microdermabrasion.

Marla Beck is the CEO and co-founder of Bluemercury Inc., an iconic high-growth luxury beauty retail chain founded in 1999, whose exponential growth is guided by her leadership and passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and consumer brands. Bluemercury is recognized for disrupting the beauty retailing industry with its creative approach to personalized beauty solutions. Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) saw the value of Bluemercury’s unique model and acquired the company in 2015. Ms. Beck is also a cosmetics brand developer, having co-founded M-61 Laboratories in 2008, makers of M-61 Skincare, a revolutionary natural cosmeceutical skincare brand and Lune+Aster Cosmetics, a vegan cosmetics brand created to empower busy women.

Ms. Beck is often invited to share her entrepreneurship, branding, and innovation expertise. Bluemercury’s pioneering retailing and human resource model has been the topic of numerous books, including Shopping: Why We Love it and How Retailers Can Create the Ultimate Customer Experience and Be Happy at Work: 100 Women Who Love Their Jobs and Why. She has appeared as a guest on CNBC, CNN and Fox Business News and has been a guest speaker for WWD’s Beauty Innovation Forum, Harvard University’s Luxury Branding Speaker Series and Columbia University’s Lang Center for Entrepreneurship’s Distinguished Speaker Series. She is also the first woman to be recognized twice by Inc. Magazine with two cover stories focusing on her entrepreneurial achievements.

Prior to founding Bluemercury, she was a consultant at McKinsey & Company. She holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, an M.P.A. from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2014, Ms. Beck received an appointment by Harvard Business School as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence and was named as one of Goldman Sachs’ 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs. Ms. Beck was Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005. She serves on the Advisory Board of Harvard Business School’s Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, the Center for Public Leadership Advisory Board at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, the Board of Directors of the National Retail Federation, the Board of Advisors of The Fashion Institute of Technology, the Board of Trustees at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington D.C. and is an independent director on the Board of Directors of The Children’s Place (NASDAQ:PLCE). She resides in Bethesda, Maryland, with her husband and three children.

Barry Beck is the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Bluemercury, Inc., a luxury beauty retail chain, e-commerce provider and cosmetics brand developer. Mr. Beck oversees all aspects of Bluemercury’s operations and leads the company's strategic growth initiatives. He developed the original store retail model after his acquisition and development of the first Bluemercury store.

Mr. Beck is often invited to share his entrepreneurship, branding and innovation expertise, and was named the 2017 Retailer of the Year by Total Retail Magazine and was the recipient of the 2016 Retail Innovator of the Year Award by Retail TouchPoints Magazine. He has appeared as a guest speaker for the Showcase on Great Consumer Brands at NASDAQ, the Future of Bricks-and-Mortar Retail at the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, Mobile Payment and Omnichannel Retailing at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, and was the keynote speaker at the 2015 Texas A&M University Retailing Summit. He has also spoken on the subject of entrepreneurship and innovation at Cornell University and Columbia University’s Lang Center for Entrepreneurship’s Distinguished Speaker Series. Mr. Beck currently sits on the Trustee Council of Cornell University, the Advisory Council of Cornell University’s ILR School, the Board of Advisors of The Fashion Institute of Technology, and on the Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.

In 2006, Mr. Beck also co-founded M-61 Laboratories, makers of M-61 Skincare, the first highly technical, natural cosmeceutical brand. Prior to Bluemercury’s founding Mr. Beck participated in the founding of Tower Systems, Inc., now known as U.S. Maintenance, a contract services business serving national retail chains, which was acquired by The Emcor Group, a Fortune 500 Company (NYSE:EME). Beck received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. He resides in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife and three children.
