Dr. Gregory Bays BrownRéVive

RéVive founder Gregory Bays Brown, MD, was already a renowned plastic surgeon when he created the luxury skincare brand. He’d been doing work with burn victims and had the idea to use a Nobel Prize-winning ingredient (Epidermal Growth Factor or EGF) to help damaged skin heal more quickly. After seeing successful results and publishing his findings in The New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Brown went on to incorporate EGF into his successful skin-renewing line. What drove you to start your own brand? With the creation of RéVive, I seamlessly merged my knowledge of science and medicine with skincare. RéVive was launched after I successfully employed a multimillion-dollar study on the cosmetic application of Nobel Prize-winning Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), a molecule originally famed for its healing effects on burn victims, and one that rejuvenates otherwise healthy skin. I began using RéVive on patients in 1991 and obtained the cosmetic patent for EGF in 1994. We were able to show real results objectively with biopsies to prove we increased cell turnover. With the creation of RéVive, I seamlessly merged my knowledge of science and medicine with skincare. There is nothing surgically that can do what RéVive does to give one the dewy glow and beautiful skin of youth.
“There are always reasons not to start a business: the economy, family, other commitments, etc. However, if one has the passion and drive and is prepared never to accept “no” or “can’t” as answers, then there’s no time like the present.”

What’s your favorite product in the line? If there’s one product in the RéVive lineup to try, it’s Moisturizing Renewal Cream. This was the first product I created 25 years ago, and it continues to be a best seller to this day. Containing our signature Bio-Renewal Protein and featuring glycolic acid, this powerful perfecting night cream gently exfoliates, retextures, renews and moisturizes facial skin. It promotes hydration, which is the key for youthful, dewy skin. This product is distinctive, focused and results-oriented.

What are your morning and evening routines? My daytime and nighttime routines are very simple: In the morning, I cleanse with Foaming Cleanser and then apply an SPF, like Intensité Crème Lustre Day SPF 30 or Sensitif Renewal Cream SPF 30. At night, I cleanse and alternate between using our iconic Moisturizing Renewal Cream and Perfectif Night Even Skin Tone Cream.

What would people be surprised to learn about you? I’m an avid art collector and am often inspired by art in business. I love partnering with my favorite artists to create limited-edition packaging for RéVive, combining my two favorite passions. The visual arts have always been a passion of mine; in fact, I view plastic surgery and even RéVive as art forms, and both are highly creative. What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting their own business? There are always reasons not to start a business: the economy, family, other commitments, etc. The list goes on and on. However, if one has the passion and drive and is prepared never to accept “no” or “can’t” as answers, then there’s no time like the present. The most fun I ever had was starting the RéVive brand. For entrepreneurs and anyone with dreams of starting something new, I’d first measure the degree of passion. It takes an enormous amount, followed by the ability to tune out naysayers. Many people will offer negative input about the difficulty, unlikely success and ennui that goes into starting a business from the ground up. Don't listen!
